Colour inspiration for Autumn-Winter 2023

Inspirational Colour Palettes and Trends for Autumn/Winter 2023

A time for planning and contemplation, the arrival of autumn heralds the transition from balmy al fresco evenings, to the comforts of the indoors as we prepare for the new rhythms of the season.

As our homes and interiors once again become the focus of our daily life, those tired corners and fading colours are ripe for a refresh.

Whilst we seldom decorate for the seasons, nature's rich tones always offer an abundance of inspiration to layer more saturated colours into our designs.  From coastal skylines and richly forested country lanes through to cityscapes, our surroundings offer a multitude of inspirational vignettes that we can reinterpret to add warmth and texture to our homes.

In the spirit of reconnecting with the earth and incorporating warm colour and organic textures, our first seasonal trend is called WINTER HORIZON...

The colour palette of Morning Dew OC-140 and Willow CC-542 takes its inspiration from cool seascapes where huge grey clouds meet mudflats and windswept stretches of sand.  The hand finished line softens the liminal space between the two shades adding a unique, organic look and feel to the room. Dressed sympathetically with textured linens, soft wools and sculptural, handmade ceramics, the look offers a perfect way to refresh a bedroom and provides a creative alternative to using a headboard.

Combining colours which share the same earthy undertones creates a sense of harmony. Shades which feature brown, pink or ochre pigments lend a feeling of warmth into your scheme and will work well no matter the season. They help to create a sense of connection when accessorising with natural materials and combine harmoniously, offering a welcoming and relaxing environment for your family and friends to enjoy.

The hub of our homes and a focal point for most of our attention, when it comes to interior design, our living rooms are one of the hardest working areas making them the perfect space for an update.  Our next trend offers a counterpoint to the popularity of the colour confident, rich, maximalist schemes of last season.

There will always be a place for those of us who err towards a classic and timeless aesthetic. QUIET LUXE offers a new take, by establishing an understated and refined calming look which is oh-so-subtle but never boring.
Choose a new neutral that offers depth and can provide a foil to a rich mix of dark woods, tactile textiles and sleek stone surfaces such as marble and quartz.

Shades such as Pashmina AF-100, Balboa Mist OC-27 and Muslin OC-12 help to create a sense of calm confidence and feel cosseting despite the considered and almost minimalist styling.  The heart of this trend, in common with this season's fashion trends, is embracing elevated basics. Carefully curated furnishings and accessories will work harmoniously with a palette which offers mysterious depth to enhance an overall feeling of intrigue.

When it's used well, paint can completely transform an interior and - as with most things - it's the careful attention to detail that can make all the difference.
Our final trend is a modern day take on the decorative detailing that was abundant in period properties, from the ornate gable trim synonymous with Victorian properties, through to the decorative moulding and cornices of the Regency period, ULTRA HIGHLIGHTS celebrates the architectural details of our homes.
A perfect weekend project, everyday architectural features are celebrated and transformed into eye-catching statements by picking out details in complementary colours such as Cushing Green HC-125 and Citron 2024-30Whether you follow the line of a skirting board with stripes in pretty pastels or inject a flash of fluorescence on an otherwise tonal surface, using paint to create highlights is guaranteed to add energy and boost your space.

The beauty of this look is that you can interpret it as you wish. If you shy away from brights and prefer a subtle take, pick out a picture rail or moulding and use a tonal contrast to highlight the detail. For the more colour confident, our range of bright pigmented colours offer a host of combinations that will catch the eye and transform a space.
