WOW!House 2025 - Peter Mikic Dining Room for Benjamin Moore

The ultimate interior designer showcase, WOW!house has once again returned to Design Centre Chelsea Harbour in London this month. This one of a kind showhouse features 22 rooms and outdoor spaces, each uniquely designed by world-class interior designers, and this year we had the pleasure of partnering with Peter Mikic for the Dining Room design as well as becoming the first official WOW!house paint partner.

Peter’s Design for the Benjamin Moore Dining Room embraces colour, craft and creativity at full volume and to celebrate the collaboration we sat down the designer himself to hear more about his inspirations, the process and why WOW!house is a must visit…

What inspired the room's design?

I have always loved the French designer Guy de Rougemont, who started off in fashion then moved to furniture design. His look is contemporary yet playful and he uses striking form and materials which I find really inspiring. The base of our dining table has a subtle hint to his work. This, as well as our love of the 70s (Guy de Rougemont also happened to operate in this era) was the primary inspiration. We then started to think about the architectural elements and colour, opting for a beautiful shade of yellow - Benjamin Moore Broadway Lights 298 - to drench the room, teamed with hand painted wall panels by Ian Harper also in this hue. The sun-drenched palette of our room is a subtle nod to my Australian heritage.

Did you design it with anyone in mind?

When I think about who lives in the house with this dining room in it, I envisage a collector. Someone who appreciates design and enjoys the process of creativity - in bringing both pieces and people together.

What was the overall atmosphere or feeling that you wanted to create?

The ambience is one of all round glamour and we were focused on evoking a real ‘wow’-factor that this event is all about. We’ve done this through the bold use of colour, statement pieces in the room and lots of fine detailing that reveals itself more and more as you linger in the room. We hope that it sets the scene of a fabulous dinner party that you never want to end.

What do you deem the highlight and why?

We have worked with Kaizen Furniture to create a truly statement dining table that for me is a real highlight. It’s a one-of-a-kind design celebrating the organic beauty of natural forms, hand-lacquered to perfection and inlaid with fine stones such as Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, and Quartz. The use of colour in the room is also a stand-out moment for me and something I’m known for in my designs.

We’ve worked with Benjamin Moore many times over the years on our projects, so it was a pleasure to collaborate again and tap into the team’s expertise and the extensive range of colours to create a powerful story in the room. As well as the striking yellow hue that is dominant throughout the space, we also had special access to the treasured Benjamin Moore archive to seek inspiration for the murals that have been hand-painted by
Billy Metcalfe.

Tell us about some of the key elements in the room?

We love showcasing the work of collaborators in our spaces and this project is no exception. Alongside Benjamin Moore we worked with an incredible line up of brands, craftspeople and artists to bring the room to life.

The space is book-ended with hand-painted murals by British artist Billy Metcalfe while the walls feature hand-painted panels by Ian Harper. The room also features coffee and side tables from a collection I designed for The Lacquer Company, a pair of Atomic pendant lights in collaboration with Cameron Design House and Jean Royère’s iconic Polaire armchair.

What have you enjoyed most overall about being part of WOW!house 2025?

For me, colour brings a space to life so the opportunity to collaborate with the team at Benjamin Moore for WOW!house 2025 has been particularly exciting. Working with a heritage brand with over 150 years of expertise and an extensive collection of thousands of colours, means we had a real advantage in conveying our colour story in the room - and plenty of inspiration to choose from.

This project has also been such a special opportunity to have fun, to push the boundaries even more than usual and showcase our work to people in the industry who may not be familiar with what we do. I hope that the room is a source of inspiration for people, triggering the senses as they get a sense of the thought and emotion behind the design.
